In Stuttgart one of the biggest infrastructural project in Europe takes place, the so-called Stuttgart 21. The old railway main station is going to be replaced underground, with the dead-end-station change into a through station. The project consists of many new tunnels, bridges, railways and other different constructions in and nearby Stuttgart. One of them is construction of a new tunnel for suburban rapid trains - tunnel Wolframstraße.
Euro Alliance Tunnels is going to construct this tunnel using the open tunneling method. The new tunnel is divided into 45 concrete blocks with different lengths and varying diameters. A significant part of the tunnel will be built in an existing tunnel, with narrow space for machinery and workers. We expect to use about 25.000 m3 of concrete and about 4.000 tons of reinforcing steel.
We are facing many challenges, as the time schedule is very tight. The complexity of that project with many involved companies requires coordination among all, especially with ongoing train traffic directly in the site area.
