On May 24th, 2018, the breakthrough of the road tunnel to the town of Gabrovo, part of road III – 5004 “Bypass of the town of Gabrovo, with a length of 540m and a cross section of 74.6 m2, was successfully preformed.
The gauge of the tunnel is 10.00 meters, including 8.50 m traffic lane (2 x 3.75 m driving lanes + 2 х 0.50 leading lanes) and 2 x 0.75m sidewalks.
The construction of the tunnel was executed by the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM).
The excavation works, performed by blasting, once again have proved the competence and experience of our specialists.
The Bypass of the town of Gabrovo is part of the Trans-European Transport Corridor No IX (Bucharest – Ruse – Dimitrovgrad – Alexandroupolis) and it is an important point for the movement of the transport flows in the North – South direction.The project is co-financed by the EU Cohesion Fund and the National budget through Operational programme “Transport 2007 – 2013”.It includes the construction of a section of 23.25 km, a stage road connection with the existing road I-5 (3.1 km) and an extended preliminary design for the tunnel project under mountain peak “Shipka”.
