On the ninth of May 2013 the first completely finished railway project, that has been financed by the Operative program “Transport” – railway line "Svilengrad – Turkish border" was put into operation.
The project includes Railway Bridge over Maritza River with length of 433 meters and width of 8 meters with foundation structures built by Stroyinject JSC, a subsidiary of Euro Alliance Engineering.
For the construction of the facility the necessary pile foundation works were executed. Each one of the main foundations of the bridge, placed on the two shores has foundations of 18 pieces cast-in-situ, hanging piles with a diameter of ∅ 1200 mm., and depth of 18.00 meters. The complicity of the project however was the construction of the foundations of the nine columns in the river bed. Each one of them has foundations consisting of eight pieces of cast-in-situ piles with a diameter of ∅ 1200 mm, and depth of 23.00 meters. The construction of the connecting foundation structure over the piles was performed at elevation of minus five meters of the low water level of Maritza River. For the construction of each one of them in the river bed the execution of vertical-water-resistant Sheet retaining wall structure had to be performed.
In order to prevent the powerful water filtration through the bottom of the construction, an area jet grouting injection works with cement-bentonite mixture were executed in advance.
